Addams Family Pancakes

Here we are at the last minute for Food ‘n Flix again…

This month’s flicks were hosted by Kimberly at Coffee and Casseroles.  Getting into the Halloween spirit, she gave us two 90’s movie options: The Addams Family or The Addams Family Values.  And since they aired back to back on TV, I watched both!

The Addams Family was pretty good but the Addams Family Values was pure brilliance.  Wednesday Addams is my favorite character and she had a larger role in the sequel, plus the story line was hilarious.  I loved it.

But then, I realized that I was overly focused on enjoying the movie instead of food spotting, so I had very little written down.

Then I saw that IHOP had a special promo Addams family menu right now, since there is a new animated Addams Family coming out.  I remembered a breakfast scene or two in the movies (though they contained mystery meat, not pancakes), and decided to take my inspiration from IHOP and make Addams Family pancakes.

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Pudding Cookies #choctoberfest

Can one have too many pumpkin cookies?  I don’t think so, there’s always something new to try to keep perfecting those recipes!

I was thinking about pumpkin cookies again, especially since this month’s Fantastical Food Fight theme is Pumpkin!  I got to wondering if I’d ever made a pumpkin chocolate chip pudding cookie.

    Ukrainian Scuffles (Rohalyky)

    It’s time for this month’s Eat the World Recipe Challenge, and we’re headed to Ukraine!

    This is not the first time Ukraine has been mentioned here on the blog.  Years ago, I shared my carrot cake recipe, which was given to me by my mother, which was given to her by someone’s Ukrainian grandmother.  And it is one amazing carrot cake!

    More recently, I explored my own heritage as I shared my grandma’s Easter Bread recipe.  My grandma’s family identified as Germans from Russia as the immigrated to the US.  Given that her Easter bread shares many traits of Ukrainian Easter bread variants, it is likely that her family immigrated from Ukraine, which would have been a territory of Russia (or the Soviet Union) at the time.

    For today’s recipe, I started with a simple google search for Ukrainian recipes, which led me to some unique looking cinnamon rolls (not the ones pictured here).  But the website was really low on details about the recipe and I had a lot of trouble verifying its authenticity as a Ukrainian dish.

    By then, I had cinnamon rolls on the brain, altered my search and came up with Scuffles.  As I researched further, I realized that many of the recipes for scuffles I was finding were coming from Canadian blogs and realized that arts of Canada must have significant Ukrainian ancestry (I know in my area of the US, there are portions of the populace that can trace their heritage Germany (like my family) and Norway).

    One of the friends I make cupcakes for always wants to try new things and give me a new challenge.  This time around, we decided to give filled cupcakes a try with the cupcake version of everyone’s favorite treat to love to hate: twinkies!

    Rhubarb Breakfast Cookies

    It’s October and the garden is winding down, which means it’s time to pull up what I can and either use it or preserve it for use over the winter.  And since I’m lazy, preserving basically means chopping it up and freezing it.

    In my harvest, I found that I had a lot of rhubarb (not shocking, this is par for the course.)  But what to make?  I’d made some muffins, I’d used some in BBQ sauce, and I had no occasion for pie.
