Nacho Cheese Popcorn Seasoning

Popcorn is a favorite in my house.  A bag of microwave popcorn is the go-to after school snack for my boys and we also have our own mini popcorn popper that is so fun to use!

I’ve made sweet versions of popcorn before: Kettle Corn, Bacon Carmel Corn, and Cracker Jacks, but I’ve never made a savory popcorn before, beyond adding salt.

I started wondering if I could make my own cheddar corn (probably but it sounded complicated).  Then I began thinking about those seasoning containers at the movie theater, maybe I could make my own cheesy seasoning instead.  And maybe instead of just cheddar, it was like nacho cheese Doritos!

So I started looking at cheese powder and surprise surprise (not), I can’t get it locally and would have to order…and it mostly comes in 1 pound  jars of the stuff.  Way way more than I needed.

Then I found the best hack: Kraft Mac & Cheese packet.  Ha!  It’s perfect for that small serving I needed for a little experiment and I got to mixing.

I did not end up with something that tasted like Doritos…I mean it gave Doritos vibes but it wasn’t exact (too much onion and garlic powder, I suspect), but it was a really tasty nacho cheese flavor and was fantastic on popcorn.

And if you don’t like it on the popcorn, you can always boil those Kraft noodles and make some nacho cheese mac instead!
