Harry Potter Wedding Cake

Where are my Harry Potter fans??

July 31st (yesterday) is always a fun day for Potter fans, since July 31st is Harry’s birthday!

So what better day than to share this fun Harry Potter themed cake?

To make things even better, Tina from Squirrel Head Manor is hosting this month's Food n Flix and she chose Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone!

I'm currently in the process of reading the series out loud to my kids for the second time (we're on book 5).

Quick librarian nerd note...

Don't stop reading out loud to children just because they can read on their own! Dude (12 1/2) and Spud (just about 10) are independent readers and have been for years, but I still read out loud to them most nights. Why? Parents and children (even big ones) can bond over stories. Also, readings can foster great discussion and help kids make connections within the story and to their own lives that they may not make on their own. Plus, if it's a book that's been made into a movie, it's super fun to watch the movie together and find the similarities and differences!

Now, when it comes to Harry Potter, I like the books much more than the movies. However, the first movie (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone) stayed the truest to the book.

Just for fun, here's my review of the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Illustrated Edition

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Just when I thought I couldn't love Harry Potter anymore, they published the illustrated version. This time I shared the magic with my children. And I love, love, love it! The beautiful illustration enhance the story is such a wonderful way. If I could rate higher than 5 stars, I absolutely would!

I got to make this cake for a small family wedding reception!  Since the reception took place several months after the wedding, a wedding cake wasn’t really needed, but I wanted to make something special for the Potter loving couple!

I made a basic white cake and then glammed it up wedding style, with gold Harry Potter accents, including a Golden Snitch and Wands!

  1. You are amazing! That is a beautiful cake and could be on the cover of any foodie magazine. I'm happy to hear you are a Potter fan too and I agree with you completely about reading to our children. I am looking forward to the roundup and seeing what everyone makes.

  3. Love the cake. So true on reading aloud. I know of a very special couple that still reads aloud to each other on long car trips. I love that!
