Muddy Buddy Frappuccino

Where I live, fall can never make up its mind.  It’s hot, then cold, then hot again!  Or maybe we skip fall altogether and abruptly switch from temperatures in the 70’s to temps in the 40’s (for real).  Or perhaps an early October blizzard is in order?

This year, we’re having huge temperature swings.  The first week of school, temperatures were in the 90’s.  The second week of school, they were in the 60’s.  Now it’s the third week of school and temperatures are in the 80’s.

Just last week, we were enjoying soup and all sorts of cozy recipes.

This week I’m back to frappunccinos for breakfast like this super yummy muddy buddy frapp.  Because I’m totally the sort of person who eats dessert for breakfast (here, here, and here).

Oh and while we’re on the subject of muddy buddies – the first time I heard about muddy buddies I was like, “What?  Why would I want to eat something with an annoyingly rhymey name with mud in the title?” (-wait Mississippi Mudslides – I digress, mud can be delicious).

Anyhow, I came to realize that what, presumably, the whole rest of the world calls muddy buddies is what I grew up calling puppy chow (which is probably no better, in fact, now we’re comparing it to dog food.  Alas.)  But seriously, am I the only one?  Is it one of those crazy regional things?  What do you call them?

Wait – what were we talking about?  Right frappunccinos for breakfast.  So my mom made puppy chow and brought it for my kids.  Then I was the one who kept eating it and eventually put it in my breakfast and it was amazeballs.  The end.

But seriously – this has got the whole peanut butter and chocolate thing going on.  Plus protein powder.  And coffee.  So it’s totally breakfast.  You should make one right now.

Muddy Buddy Frappuccino

1 cup ice
1 ¼ cup skim milk or chocolate milk
1 tbsp instant coffee
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 tbsp chocolate syrup
1 tsp natural peanut butter
2 tbsp muddy buddies

Place all of the ingredients into a blender.  Blend until smooth.  Pour into a frosty mug of choice and top with whipped cream, crumbled muddy buddies, and chocolate syrup.

Makes 1 Frappuccino
