Whole Wheat Buttermilk Waffles

Dude (my 7 year old) is helping in the kitchen (and on the blog) again today!

Today, he’s cooking up our favorite buttermilk waffles.  These waffles are full of flavor and whole wheat flour!  You’ll never need another waffle recipe!

Here's what Dude has to say:

The waffles are the taste of home!  They are good with a side of strawberries!

Whole Wheat Buttermilk Waffles
Adapted from Taste of Home

1 ¾ cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
2 cups buttermilk
2 eggs
5 tbsp butter, melted
Butter, syrup, and fruit, for serving

Preheat waffle maker.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, butter, and buttermilk.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until combined.

Place batter in the waffle maker (my Belgian waffle maker takes about ¼ cup batter per square section) and cook until golden brown.

Serve immediately with butter, syrup of choice and fresh fruit.

Makes about 16 waffles, serving 8
