Donuts & Chicken Strips

A while back, Spud and I got it in our heads that we really really wanted to make homemade donuts.

The problem was, I don’t deep fry in the house and I don’t own an electric deep fryer to deep fry outside.  But after a lot of badgering from Spud, I sent a group text to my co-workers asking to borrow a deep fryer, since I figured someone would have one.  Lucky for me they did and I had a deep fryer for the weekend.

Immediately, I had the kids put together their deep fry wish list and we had the junkiest weekend ever!

We made the donuts (harder than I thought they’d be, there is a definite learning curve there, but omg - they were fantastic!)

Then we moved on to homemade deep fried eggrolls and Fried Cheesy Pickles.

Finally, Spud asked for homemade fried chicken (a little scary for me since I didn’t want it undercooked) and french fries and wow!  Those were amazing as well!

I was in the middle of writing down recipes to share when I realized that I’m really no expert at these.  I deep fried once and got lucky that they all turned out.  So if you want to make the donuts, check this recipe and this one for the chicken strips.

    2. I don't use my deep fryer often but for certain foods it is priceless.

    3. Like you, I rarely deep fry! Very clever to borrow a fryer and make a whole weekend of it. I think your doughnuts look fabulous and I would love a piece of that chicken!
