Confirmation/Pentecost Cakes

 

This year I was delighted when two friends asked me to make confirmation cakes for their children.

I love making any cakes, but cakes that celebrate the sacraments hold a special place in my heart.

Both confirmations were at the beginning of May, but I love sharing them this weekend which is the celebration of Pentecost in the Catholic church.  If you are unfamiliar, Pentecost refers to the day, 40 days after Easter, when Jesus ascended back to heaven but sent the Holy Spirit to the apostles so they could continue His ministry.  In Catholic tradition, Pentecost is the first confirmation, since we believe that the Holy Spirit comes upon those who are confirmed to be witnesses to the Good News of Christ.
