I was on vacation awhile ago and the cocktails were garnished with candied citrus slices. They seemed fun, so I decided to give them a whirl!
These were fun to make, though mine didn’t harden as much as I’d hoped. I had much more success when I made dried pineapple flowers. I think a food dehydrator would have helped, but I don’t have one. So, below are directions for candied (albeit sticky) lemon and lime slices.
Candied Lemons & Limes
Recipe from One Sweet Appetite
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 lemon, sliced thin
1 lime, sliced thin
Stir together the water and sugar in a large skillet over medium heat and bring to a low simmer. Once all the sugar is melted, add the lemon and lime slices. Simmer, flipping occasionally until translucent.
Move to a wire rack to dry. Alternatively dry the slices out in a food dehydrator or oven on low heat (200 degrees F) until dried. If using the oven, watch carefully for browning.
