SubWhale {Food 'n Flix}

This month, my friend Wendy invited me to join in on Food ‘n Flix, a fun little club wherein participants watch a movie and then whip up something inspired by the movie!

Food‘nFlix

This month’s movie is hosted by Camilla from Culinary Adventures with Camilla.  She chose Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs or Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.

Since I’d seen the first one shortly after it came out, I decided to watch the second one.  And I LOVED it!!!  I think the sequel was even better than the original!

In Cloudy 2, the malfunctioning food making machine has continued to make food, but after being unattended, it has created a whole new ecosystem of foodimals!  I’m not going into much further detail about the movie here, but I will say that I love it and I adore the foodimals!

That being said, I couldn’t choose just one foodimal, so look for a second post coming soon with another cute little guy!

For my first foodimal, I made SubWhales.  Dude and Spud were so excited!

The SubWhales were so easy, I decided to make them on homemade hoagies and load them up with all sorts of delicious Italian meats, but really, as long as the ham “baleen” and lettuce fins are there, you’ve got yourself a whale!

SubWhale

2 slices pepper salami
2 slices hot calabrese
2 slices hot capocollo
1 slice cheddar cheese, cut in triangles
2 small leaves romaine lettuce
1 large leaf romaine lettuce
1 small tomato, sliced
5-6 basil leaves
3 slices deli ham, folded accordion style & cut in half
1 bendy straw, cut
1 pimento olive

Split the bun in half.  Layer the meats cheese, and tomato.  Add the lettuce pieces to look like fins and a tail.  Carefully place the accordion folded ham on the sandwich and top with the second half of the bun.

Cut the top third off a bendy straw.  Place the olive on one side and stick the other on top of the sandwich and serve!
