AH! Are you ready for the most fun cupcakes? I mean look at them! Who wouldn’t want a cupcake with a teeny tiny waffle on it?
For these, I took a basic vanilla cupcake and added just a whisper of waffle flavors with a bit of cinnamon and maple syrup.
Then I added some maple syrup to the frosting itself, plus that tasty little drizzle you see in the photos.
To top it all off, I toasted some frozen mini waffles as a topping. Plus sprinkles, because we’re all winners here and deserve some sprinkles!

1 (13.25 ounce) box vanilla cake mix
1 (3.4 ounce) box vanilla instant pudding
1 cup water
¾ cup vegetable oil
1 (8 ounce) tub sour cream
4 eggs
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons maple syrup
Frosting
2 cups vegetable shortening
2 pounds powdered sugar
2 ½ tablespoons maple syrup
¼ teaspoon salt
6-8 tablespoons water
To decorate
24 mini cinnamon waffles, toasted

Sprinkles
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line two 12-cup muffin tins with paper liners.
Place all ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Mix until combined.
Scoop the batter evenly in the tins. Bake for 20-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool completely on wire racks.
To make the frosting, place the frosting ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Beat until smooth, adding more water, if necessary.
Transfer the frosting into a piping bag fitted with a large tip. Pipe frosting onto cupcakes. Add a drizzle of syrup, followed by sprinkles and a mini waffle.
Makes 24 cupcakes
