Chocolate Eggs

This month, Movies & Munchies is watching Wonka. If you need an invite, let me know and I’ll invite you to the Facebook group!

I saw Wonka for the first time in theaters and I fell in love.  I loved the story, I loved the music, I loved the chocolate - all of it, so I knew I wanted to host the watching of this film!

So what did I make?

Chocolate of course!  Back at Easter, I was making chocolate eggs for the family when I realized I could make Wonka inspired eggs as well.

Then I somehow seized the first batch of chocolate (I still have no idea how it happened) and had to throw it.  And suddenly I had a chocolate shortage instead of having enough for two chocolate egg halves, so I had to pivot my plans.

I ended up taking some chocolate and making an egg shape on my lined baking mat (I use silicone mats, but parchment or waxed paper would work just as well) and letting them harden while I started forming my egg halves in the mold.

Once the egg halves were made and unmolded, I filled them with candies, piped royal icing in the edges and carefully inverted them onto the bases I’d made previously, and then decorated.

Luckily, I had just enough extra to attempt a couple Wonka chocolates with I covered in Royal Icing and Luster Dust.  It was a very fun project!  The end result is a little clunkier than I wanted it to be (it was so smooth and then it dried a little bumpy) but I am still very happy with the attempt!
