Cinnamon Log Slice Cookies #FilltheCookieJar

It’s time to #FilltheCookieJar again and this month’s theme is Christmas cookies!!!

I just love making Christmas cookies!  I never run out of ideas for Christmas cookies!

For this event, though, I wanted to make log slice cookies, because I’ve had my eye on them since last Christmas!  And last year I ran out of time and already had a million cookies made and I just couldn’t justify it!

Thankfully, I can be pretty patient when I need to, so I put these cookies on the back burner until it was finally Christmas season again!

Garject from DreamFarm #Giveaway

*Disclosure: I received a complimentary Garject from DreamFarm.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A few months ago, I snapped the handle right off my garlic press – I was super bummed, because I used it a lot and really liked the one I had.

I bought a replacement, but I just wasn’t happy with it, but I didn’t think any of the other readily available garlic presses would be any better, so I resigned myself to mediocrity.

Then DreamFarm contacted me wondering if I’d like to test one of their products.  I looked around their website and found tons of very fun, innovative kitchen gadgets, including the Garject – a garlic press that presses garlic, scrapes the press clean, and then ejects the peel!

It was destiny – I received the Garject and fell in love!  It is the BEST garlic press I’ve used so far (including that beloved garlic press I broke).  It makes pressing garlic a breeze, and clean up even easier!!  Even Hubs was impressed!

DreamFarm is a small company that started in the founder’s backyard shed.

According to the adorable video found on their website, DreamFarm is “the problem solving company that grows ideas into inventions”

They firmly believe that “a great design must solve a problem, and to be the best, you must do what has never been done before.”

Check out DreamFarm on their website or on social media.

DreamFarm has all kinds of fun kitchen gadgets like the Scizza (pizza scissors), Levups or Levoons (measuring cups & spoons that include a scraper for easy leveling – plus they nest for storage!)

Now, who wants a Garject of their very own?!?

Classic Pumpkin Pie

Classic Pumpkin Pie is must this Thanksgiving!

Is there anything better than pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving?

I actually make pumpkin pie more often than Thanksgiving.  Spud LOVES all things fall and winter and though his birthday is in early August when the temperature is scorching, I am usually found making knoephla soup and pumpkin pie for his birthday meal!

This year, spud was dying to roast his own pumpkins and make a pie.  So we made one in last month (0nce we were able to acquire pie pumpkins).  He was thrilled with his pie and immediately wanted to make one to bring to his Nana & Papa’s house for Thanksgiving, too!

I tried something new last year and it’s the greatest Thanksgiving centerpiece ever!

It’s a bread cornucopia!

And it’s crazy easy to make!

*Disclosure: I received products to sample from CharlesViancin and Republic of Tea.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Welcome to the #TastyParTEA!

This event is organized my Camilla at Culinary Adventures with Camilla and sponsored by Charles Viancin and Republic of Tea!

In this event, a baker’s dozen of bloggers are cooking with tea!  Plus, TWELVE lucky winners will win a gorgeous mug and tea magnet (infuser) just like the ones you see pictured below.

I love that tea magnet you guys!  It is such an amazing way to steep the tea - it takes out all the mess!  Perfection!

Once I started thinking about cooking with tea, I knew I wanted to make something sweet!  I was thinking about the warm cozy flavors in chai tea and how perfect they are in the late fall and it hit me: I wanted to bring those flavors into some delicious muffins!  Because I just love muffins!  They’re so perfect and delicious and portable – and these ones have chocolate and caffeine!  Woohoo!! Best muffins evah!

Bacon & Avocado Deviled Eggs #FantasticalFoodFight

Bacon Avocado Deviled Eggs are a fun twist on a classic!

Welcome to the first Fantastical Food Fight!!

In FFF, participants are given a recipe theme, interpret it as they will and then share on the selected day.  Our first food fight features deviled eggs!

I don’t often make deviled eggs (mostly because I’m lazy).  In fact, I don’t know if I’ve ever made them myself!  I know I’ve definitely been passed a bowl of mashed yolks and been asked to finish the deviled eggs at holidays, but I’ve never been in charge.

This changes today!

I decided to pull in a couple of my favorite flavors for these deviled eggs – bacon and avocado!!  Because bacon and avocado made everything better!  Oh and then sriracha too, because why not?!?

Best Ever Mac & Cheese

Bacon Flavored Ritz Crackers take this Mac & Cheese to the next level.

I’m finally back with the Taste of Home Tuesday crew this week!  What a month it’s been!

Last month, when my magazine came in the mail, Best Ever Mac & Cheese caught my eye!  Though I knew I was only asking for trouble (for some reason, my children despise homemade mac and cheese of any kind), I just couldn’t resist giving it a try!

You guys!!!

It was sooo good!  Creamy and rich, and absolutely amazing!  Next time, I would love to stir in some protein – maybe some bacon or ham – to make this a more completely main dish.  Oh oh!  Maybe some bacon and broccoli!  Boom – one dish meal!

Pumpkin Spice Chocolate Chip Pudding Cookies #SecretRecipeClub

Pumpkin Spice Chocolate Chip Pudding Cookies are perfect for fall!

Today’s Secret Recipe Club reveal is bittersweet.  You see, SRC’s time has come to a close.  Luckily, there are some few new clubs and events on the horizon (most including former SRC members – yay!), so keep an eye out for those!

For this final Secret Recipe Club reveal, I was assigned Nicole’s blog, I am a Honey Bee.  Nicole is a wife, mom, and architect by day!  She also loves a challenge, cooking, and baking!

I knew I definitely wanted to make a dessert for my final SRC post, and since I’m obsessed with all things pumpkin spice, I decided to make a pumpkin spice version of a chocolate chip cookie!

Buttercream Roses Vanilla Cake #FoodnFlix

This stunning Buttercream Roses Vanilla Cake is only the top tier of a beautiful birthday cake!

It’s time for this month’s Food ‘n Flix recipe!

In Food ‘n Flix, participants watch the selected movie, cook up something delicious inspired by the movie and share it (there’s still time to participate this month, click that link for details!)

This month’s movie is Burnt hosted by Caroline at Caroline Makes.

In the movie Adam (Bradley Cooper) is a classically trained chef who was ruined his career with drugs and childish behavior.  After cleaning himself up, he goes to London to reconnect with some chefs he’d worked with before he ruined his career to reestablish his reputation and seek his third Michelin star.

The movie follows the fast-paced, cut-throat career of the restaurant industry.  There are long, hard hours.  Underlings yell “yes chef” no matter how absurd the request.

I thought this was a great movie, though it also reaffirmed that I am perfectly happy being a home chef and food blogger.  I would not like the life of the chef!

Rosemary Roasted Rainbow Carrots

Okay.

How gorgeous are these carrots?!?  I wish I could get them in my area all the time (but alas, I cannot), but I have to just enjoy them while I have them!

I decided the best way to use these would be a simple preparation to let the carrots speak for themselves!

Butter Chicken + A Book Review

*Disclosure: I received a free copy of Karma and the Art of Butter Chicken and the accompanying ecookbook from the author, Monica Bhide to review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

It’s book review time!

As a foodie and an avid reader, I love books that combine my two passions.  And while I tend toward Young Adult or High Fantasy novels, I love reading from a variety of genres – you never know what will strike you as a reader!

Monica Bhide is an award winning writer, accomplished literary coach, gifted poet, storyteller, and educator with a lyrical voice and universal appeal. As a bestselling fiction and internationally renowned cookbook author, Bhide is known for sharing food, culture, mystery, and love in her writing. Having roots and experience in many places, Bhide inspires readers everywhere with present day stories which transcend culturalchronological, geographical, economical, and religious borders

And here’s a bit more about the book:

In all honesty, I had trouble connecting with the characters – perhaps because the culture, upbringing, and worldview is so different than my own.

In particular, I found Kitt’s storyline problematic.  I just didn’t understand the choices she made or why (even though it was revealed after being alluded to for ¾ of the book.)

My favorite character by far was Potato Baba.  I just loved him and his pureness and how his character (though a minor character in the book) came full circle.  And I loved the food inspirations and inspiration in general.  There’s a real feeling throughout the book to never ever give up on your dreams and to keep trying and trying and trying.

After reading, I was super excited to jump into the accompanying ecookbook.  Right away, I gravitated to the recipe for butter chicken.  I loved the whole story surrounding the butter chicken and knew I wanted to give it a try.

Turkey Cookies #SecretRecipeClub

Turkey Cookies use cookies and candies for a fun Thanksgiving treat!

In this final month of Secret Recipe Club reveals, I’m jumping in to help group A with their reveal.

I was assigned Erin’s blog, Making Memories with Your Kids.

Erin is a single mom of two and full time middle school counselor.  She loves crafting and baking and including her children in her passions!

Erin has tons of wonderful kid-friendly recipes on her blog and many fun little crafty foods to make for or with the kids.  Since it’s so close to Thanksgiving, I made her Turkey Cookies!

Limelight Steak

Limelight Steak uses simple ingredients for huge flavors!

Dude was home sick from school last week, so he spent his day digging through my closet of books, reading book after book after book!

Eventually he came across a little cookbook I’d bought years ago, but never got around to using: Cooking with Coke!

I don't know why I never used it - the recipes look amazing (and I can attest to at least 1 being delicious!)  Most of the recipes use common kitchen ingredients for a variety of  recipes ranging from starters to entrees, and even a few desserts!

Pumpkin Spice Sugar Cookies #FilltheCookieJar

Pumpkin Spice Sugar Cookies are a new fall favorite!

Today I’m joining in a new monthly group: Fill the Cookie Jar!

Because who doesn’t love cookies?

I got a jump on my Thanksgiving cookies this year (while also making a few Halloween Cookies!)  I’m sharing the yummy cookie recipe here, but be sure to check out my other blog, Amy’s Confectionery Adventures for my Day of the Dead Cookies and my Thanksgiving cookies!

Because I’m obsessed with pumpkin everything this year, I decided to jazz up my sugar cookies with some pumpkin spice (no actual pumpkin in this one, just the spices!)

Croque Monsieur #CooktheBooksClub

Croque Monsieur is one of my bucket list recipes

I mean, really it’s a hot ham & cheese with more cheese broiled on top!  Can life get any better??

I finally decided to tackle this recipe for this month’s Cook the Books Club selection, Tomorrow There Will be Apricots by Jessica Soffer and hosted by Simona from Briciole.

The book follows Lorca, a self-harming teenager with an emotionally absent mother and Victoria, an elderly, recently widowed former restaurant owner.

Through a series of rather implausible events Lorca and Victoria connect and Victoria begins to mentor Lorca.
