October Reads

You guys.  Having a job outside the house is majorly cramping my reading style!  Needless to say, I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks and sinking into some great books!

Pumpkin Pie Coffee Milkshake #SecretRecipeClub

Add caption
Today is a special Secret Recipe Club reveal featuring delicious fall treats and meals!

I was assigned Nicole’s blog Crazed Mom.  Nicole is a mom of 5 teenagers and loves cooking, diy projects, traveling, and planners!  Sounds like she’s busy indeed!

There were so many fantastic recipes to choose from, but I immediately zoned in on the drinks and came across a pumpkin pie coffee milkshake!

Pumpkin Spice Syrup or Pumpkin Juice & Butterbeer

A delicious Pumpkin Spice Syrup - Plus ideas for Pumpkin Juice & Butterbeer!

This month marks the one year anniversary of my boys’ introduction to the Harry Potter books!  We started when Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was rereleased fully illustrated and haven’t stopped since!  I’m currently reading book 6 (Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince) out loud to the kids!

I love being able to share one of my favorite series with my children!  Dude and I are even dressing up as Harry Potter and Luna Lovegood for Halloween!

Eyeball Cookies #FoodnFlix

Eyeball Cookies - A spooky Halloween treat everyone will enjoy!

It’s time for the Halloween edition of Food ‘n Flix!

In Food ‘n Flix, bloggers watch the selected movie for the month, then head to the kitchen to whip up something inspired by the movie!  Any blogger can join in the fun, just click the link to find out more!

This month’s film was Beetlejuice, hosted by Deb at Kahakai Kitchen.

I think I saw part of Beetlejuice, once, ages ago, but I barely remembered it, so it was time to watch it with foodie goggles on.

I’m sure most of you have already seen this movie at one time or another, so I won’t spend a ton of time on a synopsis, especially since this movie was really not my cup of tea.

You guys, I’m reeeeeally not into super Halloweeny or spooky movies.  Like, at all.  My idea of a Halloween movie is It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, or the Harry Potter series.

Ogre Eyes Hot Chocolate #Choctoberfest

Today is the Taste of Home Tuesday Choctober celebration!  Yes!  After a whole week of Chotcoberfest fun, I’m back again with more chocolate, because really, is there such a thing as too much chocolate?  It keeps the dementors away.  Or well, makes you feel better after a dementor attack at any rate.

Wait, what were we talking about?

Right!

More chocolate!

S’mores M&M Cookies #Choctoberfest

I’m wrapping up the #Choctoberfest fun today with more cookies!!

These ones are brought to you by #Choctoberfest sponsor Imperial Sugar

Imperial Sugar has been producing high quality pure cane sugar since 1843.  Depending where you live, you may find Imperial Sugar under the Imperial Sugar brand or Dixie Crystals.  Imperial Sugar started in Texas, but eventually expanded to include several sites throughout the Southeast.

Plus their website includes a ton of awesome recipes to try!

On to today’s cookies!

I was shopping recently, and I came across a bunch of seasonal M&Ms, including S’mores flavor!

I was pretty skeptical, but couldn’t resist the allure of S’mores, so I decided to give them a whirl.  Well, they left a bit to be desired, so I decided to give the s’mores flavors a boost – in cookie form!  Umm…again and again and again (hello, my name Amy & I’ m a S’mores addict…)

Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookies #Choctoberfest

#Choctoberfest continues today with some more cookies!  All of my favorite flavor combinations involve chocolate (or so it would seem).

So, today I decided to follow up the chocolate & coffee combo with chocolate and peanut butter!

Chocolate Pumpkin Muffins #Choctoberfest

*Disclosure: I received product to sample from Caveman Coffee Co.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

It’s time for the second #choctoberfest recipe!!  Yay chocolate!

Today’s recipe is brought to you by #choctoberfest sponsor, Caveman Coffee Co.

Caveman Coffee Co specializes in third wave coffee.  This means that the coffee is hand-picked, single origin, and small batch roasted for a superior coffee.

Right upon opening the coffee, it smells amazing.  And, once ground, makes and equally amazing cup of coffee!  Caveman Coffee Co. also sent me a package of cocoa butter that I have yet to same – stay tuned for some yummy recipes made with cocoa butter!

And what goes better together than coffee and chocolate?

I decided to use the coffee to create a chocolatey, coffee laden version of one of my favorite muffins: pumpkin chip!

Chicken & Broccoli Rice Bowls #SecretRecipeClub

It’s Secret Recipe Club Reveal Day!  In SRC, participants are assigned another blog, search the recipes, make something amazing, and then reveal.

This month, I was assigned Wendy’s blog, A Day in the Life on the Farm, and I was so so excited, because Wendy is my real life friend!  She’s actually my mother-in-law’s best friend, and has become a friend of mine as well!   Wendy is always making amazing recipes (I’ve made and featured a few - here and here), so I knew I’d have a tough choice ahead of me.

Indeed, I wanted to make the Milky Way Martini (I just don’t think I could do it justice!), Lemon and Rosemary Pound Cake, BLT Pasta, or Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Eggs (I would’ve made pumpkins since it’s October).

In the end, I ended up making Chicken & Broccoli Rice Bowls.  It caught my eye right when Wendy posted it and I’ve been ogling it ever since.

    Mini Applesauce Muffins

My baby is in Kindergarten and I spend mornings helping out in the classroom (I don’t have attachment issues or anything (kidding!  The right job came around at the right time!)), then I get my afternoon off to go to the gym, or run errands, or do housework, or ignore all that and make muffins.

In the first few weeks of Kindergarten the kids learn about a new letter of the alphabet each day and the children bring an item to share that starts with that letter.  Spud had “C” day first (and brought cookies, I mean, everyone knows that C is for Cookie).  And his second share day was on “m” day!

Spud is so sweet, that he asked me to come back to school for share time, so he could share Mom on “M” day!  Instead of doing any of the aforementioned adulty things, I went home and made mini muffins to share with the class.

You guys, the children were so excited!  It was totally worth it!

Crockpot Pulled Pork with Carolina BBQ Sauce #SecretRecipeClub

I’m helping out with Group A’s Secret Recipe Club Reveal today!

In SRC, members are secretly assigned another blog, search through the recipes, whip up something delicious, and reveal (click that link for more details!)

I was assigned Erin’s blog, Table for Seven!  Table for Seven is a new blog to me and I was so surprised to see how many similarities there are between Erin and me!

Erin and I started our cooking journeys in a similar fashion.  Both of us began cooking when our oldest children were picky eaters!  Erin is a mom of 6 – 5 here on earth and one angel baby (I’m a mom of 3 – 2 here on earth and one angel baby).  Both of our angel babies are girls, though Erin’s sweet Eliza spent 1 month on earth before going to heaven and my little Sarah Catherine was stillborn.

Sorry, I got a little heavy there, but it always comforts me to “meet” other grieving mothers out there.

Let’s talk yummy food now, ‘kay?

Erin makes my kind of food!  I wanted to make everything I came across, but as I had already pulled a pork roast out of the freezer, I was pretty focused on the pork recipes!  But when I have time, I’m totally going to the desserts!  In particular, Chocolate Caramel Squares, Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa, Pumpkin Pie Hot Cocoa (be still my heart!), and Turtle Cookies
